I feel much more informed about internet safety after Jeff Crews' brief presentation. I feel like I would have learned more if he'd had more time to give the presentation, but with the time he had he did a great job. I hadn't realized HOW prevalent 'internet crime' was, and I was shocked that 1 in 5 kids has been sexually solicited online. I feel like that's gotten a lot worse since I went to chatrooms as a preteen and young teen.
I was also a bit creeped out by how much information you can get by someone's name and location. It was almost hard for me to sit through after watching the Briana Denison case in Reno unfold (even though that's not internet-related).
I will be much more aware about internet safety now, but I know I still have a lot to learn before I set my young students 'loose' on the internet. I know the internet can be a great resource if it's used wisely!
I would also eventually love to learn more about the 'web nanny' type programs available and how to use those.
